Rep. Louie Gohmert of Texas joined Dana Loesch on her television program to talk about the internal conflict in the GOP after House Speaker Paul Ryan made it known that he would no longer defend or campaign with Donald Trump. In response, the Republican presidential nominee said, “the shackles have been taken off,” allowing him to attack other Republicans and campaign however he wants.

When Loesch questioned Gohmert about the reality star’s “shackles” comment, the congressman went off on a weird rant about how the 2009 hate crimes laws will have Christian in the U.S. in shackles.

“I do see the potential there for the future,” he said. “I’m talking literally.”

Gohmert then talked about the lynching of James Byrd and the murder of Matthew Shepard were the incidents that allowed the passage of hate crime legislation, which is “ultimately going to be used to go after Christians and go after churches.”

“They’re going to say that the religion truly based on love,” Gohmert stated, “they will start saying it’s the most hateful religion and they will say that because Christians say that you have to believe like we do or you don’t go to heaven, you go to hell, that that’s mean and that’s hateful and they’ll come [for Christians] and now it’s coming. It’s here. It’s here already.”
