Motormouth radio talk show host, Glen Beck has found himself out of a job, after SiriusXM radio put on him on suspension on Tuesday. The move followed a session in which Beck had a heated exchange with a guest who had mentioned that ‘’a patriot will step up’’ in order to dethrone Donald Trump from office, in the event that we booked a seat in the Oval Office.
Beck responded to the caller in a manner that the station said could be construed as a direct approval of anti – Trump violence if the GOP candidate makes it to presidency in November. This has led to the show being temporarily suspended with a shadow of doubt being cast on the show’s future.
The whole debacle began when Beck concurred with Brad Thor, a regular on the show, who insinuated the risk that Trump is to democratic institutions. “This could bring down incredible heat on me, because I’m about to suggest something very bad. It is a hypothetical I am going to ask as a thriller writer,” Thor started. “With the feckless, spineless Congress we have, who will stand in the way of Donald Trump overstepping his constitutional authority as president? If Congress won’t remove him from office, what patriot will step up and do that if he oversteps his mandate as president, his constitutional granted authority as president?” To this, Beck responded, ‘’I would agree with you on that.’’
SiriusXM has put out a statement calling the statements irresponsible. “SiriusXM encourages a diversity of discourse and opinion on our talk programs,” the station’s official statement read. “However, comments recently made by a guest on the independently produced Glenn Beck Program, in our judgement, may be reasonably construed by some to have been advocating harm against an individual currently running for office, which we cannot and will not condone.”
It then continued, “For that reason, we have suspended The Glenn Beck Program from our Patriot channel for the coming week and are evaluating its place in our lineup going forward.” The statement then goes on to state, “SiriusXM is committed to a spirited, robust, yet responsible political conversation and believes this action reflects those values.”
Meanwhile, the cause of all the trouble, Thor, posted a drawn out Facebook post in which he denied ever inciting any kind of anti – Trump sentiment.
