Republican National Committee head Reince Priebus appeared on Face The Nation on Sunday and threatened all GOP officeholders who refuse to support the Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, telling them to get on the Trump train or you will receive not party support when you run for office again.
Priebus told host John Dickerson that he expects top Republicans who have previously failed to support the former reality star to hit the campaign trail and help the party win the White House.
“I think people need to get outside this Beltway and get on the road,” Priebus explained. “This is probably one of the biggest movements as far as people across this country in modern history.”
Priebus hinted that even big name Republicans like Jeb Bush, Ted Cruz and John Kasich will pay the cost if they fail to live up to the pledges they signed to support whoever becomes the nominee.
“Look, people who agreed to support the nominee, who took part in our process, they used tools from the RNC. They agreed to support the nominee. They took part in our process,” Priebus explained.
“We’re a private party. We’re not a public entity. Those people need to get on board,” he warned. “And if they’re thinking they’re going to run again someday, I think we’re going to evaluate the nomination process, and I don’t think it’s going to be that easy for them. I think these are things that our party’s going to look at in the process. I think people who gave us their word, used information from the RNC, should get on board.”
