Answers in Genesis CEO and President Ken Ham has said that Christians who believe in evolution are compromising on God’s truth, which can also lead to falsely justifying adultery and other “sinful tendencies.” “One of the problems with compromise in one area of Scripture is where do you stop compromising? If Christians accept the idea of human evolution, then why not accept the idea that our sinful tendencies are really just evolved tendencies?” Ham asked in a Facebook post on Monday.
“But this completely changes the Bible’s definition of sin and why we sin and face the penalty of death for our sin, ‘Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned’ (Romans 5:12). A belief in evolution strikes at the heart of the Gospel!”
The AiG president, who also leads the Creation Museum in Kentucky, added that there are Christians who believe in evolution whose “salvation is not in doubt if they have placed their faith in Christ,” but argued that they are “undermining the authority of God’s Word.” He then linked to a blog post he made earlier in July on the AiG website, where he commented on evolutionary thinking that seeks to explain why some people cheat on their spouses. He said, however, that people commit adultery because of sin, not evolution.
“Instead of appealing to an imaginary group of human ancestors who passed along the tendency to cheat, we need to call sin what it is: sin! Sadly, our culture has a warped view of sin. Lately there have been more and more attempts to explain sinful behavior in light of our supposed evolutionary past,” he wrote. “But when we start with God’s Word we get an entirely different picture. We were created in God’s image and are accountable to Him. Because He is our Creator. He sets the rules and He has made it clear in His Word that adultery is utterly sinful, ‘Marriage is honorable among all, and the bed undefiled; but fornications and adulterers God will judge’ (Hebrews 13:4).”
Ham has spoken out against what he sees as the promotion of “sexual perversions” in culture on a number of occasions. Back in June, he said that pop star Miley Cyrus is shaking “her fist at God” after she said that she is open to “every single thing that is consenting and doesn’t involve an animal” regarding her sexuality. “Where Miley Cyrus is now in her thinking is where our culture is heading as more and more people abandon Christian morality based on the Bible and decide to make their own rules/laws. Yes, the culture is becoming like that described in the book of Judges,” Ham said.
