After President Donald Trump tweeted a mocked-up clip of himself body slamming a CNN journalist, The White House came to his defense.
CNN released a statement telling Trump that he should be doing his job instead of instigating violence against reporters.
“It is a sad day when the President of the United States encourages violence against reporters,” the CNN statement read. “Clearly, Sarah Huckabee Sanders lied when she said the President had never done so.”
According to The Daily Beast, White House staffers supported the president’s attack on the cable news network. White House Director of Social Media Dan Scavino supposedly helped create the video.
“I thought it was funny,” one official at the White House told the publication. “Glad Scavino and the president did that.”
“The president fights back,” one staffer said. “It’s rich that some of you people [in the media] can never take a joke.”
However, not everybody saw it as a joke.
Republic strategist Ana Navarro said on ABC’s This Week, that Trump’s instigation of violence will “get someone killed.”
