During an interview on CNN’s ‘New Day’ on Monday, author of ‘TrumpNation, the Art of Being the Donald’, Tim O’Brien that giving President Donald Trump credit for a meaningful media strategy is too much. Trump only uses twitter for “self-preservation or self-aggrandizement.”
On Sunday, the president began the day by posting a tweet that showed him body-slamming a man labeled ‘CNN,’ which many took as an incitement to violence against journalists.
On Monday’s show, “New Day” claims that the president is using social media to effectively distract people from issues like the Russia probe.
O’Brien, who Trump once tried to intimidate while writing ‘TrumpNation’ by claiming that he recorded their conversations, said ‘New Day was giving him too much credit.
“Yeah, I don’t think he’s a strategic thinker,” O’Brien said. “Trump has been doing this for decades, stirring controversy when he wants to tweak media coverage in a different direction. I don’t think it’s new for politicians to set up the media as a punching bag when they’re concerned about broader threats to their agenda.”
O’Brien says that the only two things that motivate Trump to do anything is, “Either self-preservation or self-aggrandizement.”
