On the same day that President Donald Trump’s daughter Ivanka Trump dines with the Chinese President Xi Jinping, she received provisional approval for three trademarks in that country.
According to the Associated Press, earlier this month, “Ivanka Trump’s company won provisional approval from the Chinese government for three new trademarks, giving it monopoly rights to sell Ivanka brand jewelry, bags and spa services in the world’s second-largest economy.”
Normally this would not make any headlines, however, she just happened to win approval on April 6, the same day the Chinese president joined the Trump family at the president’s private Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida.
Former White House ethics layer for President George W. Bush Richard Painter suggest that Ivanka stop trying to get trademarks form foreign countries while advising the president.
“Put the business on hold and stop trying to get trademarks while you’re in government,” he said.
