Although she never mentioned the president-elect by name, it was obvious that the passionate speech Meryl Streep gave on Sunday night was about Donald Trump’s bad behavior.
During an interview on Fox & Friends on Monday, Trump advisor Kellyanne Conway criticized Streep’s speech, which she felt was inappropriate, and expressed “concern” that the actress was causing a divide in the country instead of unifying it behind the new president.
“We have to now form a government, and I’m concerned that somebody with a platform like Meryl Streep is also, I think, inciting people’s worst instincts,” Conway said. “When she won’t get up there and say, ‘I don’t like it, but let’s try to support him and see where we can find some common ground with him, which [Trump] has actually done from moment one.”
Although Conway claims that Trump is trying his best to pull the country together after winning the presidency, his actions show the opposite. Since his victory, he has gotten into arguments with Meryl Streep, Arnold Schwarzenegger and the cast of Hamilton, all while barely attending any intelligence briefings.
