During an interview on Fox News on Sunday, President Donald Trump claims that the murder of opponents and critics is proof that Russian President Vladimir Putin is a strong leader and that America isn’t “so innocent.”

When host Bill O’Reilly asked Trump about his relationship with the Russian president, “I do respect him. Well, I respect a lot of people, but that doesn’t mean I’ll get along with them.”

“Putin is a killer,” O’Reilly pointed out.

“There are a lot of killers. We have a lot of killers,” Trump said. “Well, you think our country is so innocent?”

Putin’s regime is considered one of the deadliest in the world toward journalists who criticize the Russian president and the Federal Security Bureau (FSB) – the questionable security agency that took over for the KGB. Some of Putin’s opponents have also died from poisoning or have been put in jail.

Trump insisted that it is “better” for America and Russia to be allies for many reasons.

“If Russia helps us in the fight against ISIS, which is a major fight, and Islamic terrorism all around the world, major fight. That’s a good thing,” Trump said.
